About Washington Small Claims Court
Washington small claims are filed in District Court or Municipal Court and cover disputes up to $10,000 for individuals and $5,000 for businesses. Attorneys are not permitted at hearings. Washington has a 6-year statute of limitations for written contracts and 3 years for oral contracts and personal injury. Filing fees are $35–$50 depending on the court. Corporations must be represented by an employee or officer, not an outside attorney. Losing parties may appeal to the Superior Court.
