Rhode Island small claims are filed in the District Court and cover disputes up to $5,000. Attorneys are allowed. Rhode Island is nationally unique for its 10-year statute of limitations that applies to all civil claims — both contracts and personal injury — giving plaintiffs extraordinary time to act. The filing fee is $55 in person and $75.75 electronically. Cases are decided by a District Court judge. Losing parties may appeal.
