About Massachusetts Small Claims Court
Massachusetts small claims are heard in the District Court, Boston Municipal Court, or Housing Court (for landlord-tenant matters) and cover disputes up to $7,000. Attorneys are permitted. Massachusetts offers an excellent online filing tool called 'Guide and File' that walks plaintiffs through the process step by step. The 6-year statute of limitations for contracts is generous. Filing fees are tiered from $40 to $150. Losing parties may appeal for a new trial at the Appellate Division.
