About Connecticut Small Claims Court
Small claims in Connecticut are heard in the Superior Court's Small Claims Session and generally cover disputes up to $5,000. However, for home improvement contract claims, the limit rises to $15,000 — a significant exception worth knowing. The flat $95 filing fee is one of the highest in the country for small claims. Attorneys are permitted. Connecticut allows claims to be filed where the plaintiff lives, where the defendant lives or does business, or where the transaction occurred.
